Storm defeat Vikings, remain undefeated

KEWAUNEE – The Storm moved to 10-0 overall for the season following a 58-39 drubbing of Denmark at home on Friday, Dec. 29.

“We’re pulling out the wins. We’re not playing perfect but we’re getting it done,” said Kewaunee head coach Lynn Geier following her team’s latest victory. “Every game, they learn a little bit more and they grow up a little bit more, they get a little bit tougher.”

A gritty first half performance by the Storm saw them go into the locker room at halftime with a 31-20 lead.

Not letting up to begin the final 18 minutes of play, Kewaunee wasted no time padding their lead.

After a Denmark three-pointer brought the visitors to within nine points of the lead early on, Kewaunee’s Summer Walechka, off a nice assist from Gabrielle Stangel, scored and was fouled, converting the three-point play to put the Storm up 36-24.

From there, Kewaunee played smart to protect its lead and cruised to victory.

Jade Kroll finished with 15 points to lead all scorers while Briana Demmin had 12.

“I think they’re holding each other accountable,” coach Geier said of the team’s mentality at this point in the season. “They’re pushing each other and making sure that everyone’s doing their job.”

Spartans get past Jaguars

LUXEMBURG – The Spartans improved their overall record to 6-4 with a hard-fought 42-39 victory over Ashwaubenon at home on Thursday, Dec. 28.

Brianna Bray scored 14 points to lead the L-C scorers while also bringing down two rebounds and assisting on one score.

Sienna Blohowiak finished with 10 points, six boards, two assists and four steals.

Phantoms too much for Spartans

DE PERE – The L-C girls hit the road to take on West De Pere, the Bay Conference’s top team, on Tuesday, Jan. 2, keeping pace with the Phantoms for the first half of play before being outscored 29-9 in the second half en route to a 62-35 non conference defeat.

The Spartans, now 6-5 overall, were led by 15 points from Brianna Bray while Erin Cherovsky, Gabrielle Welch, and Alayna Deprez each turned in six points.
