Storm's Brooke Geier reaches 1,000 mark in Algoma-Kewaunee game

Brooke Geier didn't know that she was close to scoring her 1,000th point for the Kewaunee Storm Thursday night, so when her coach and mother Lynn Geier told her in the locker room after the game, she wasn't sure which basket of the 22 points she had scored had put her over the threshold.

The 17-year-old varsity basketball player for the Kewaunee Storm becomes the first junior girls basketball player to join the group of Kewaunee County's elite girls basketball players who have crossed the 1,000 point mark this year, which also includes Algoma seniors Anna Dier and Baleigh Delorit.

Geier was just 14 points short of the 1,000 point mark at the beginning of the game against top-seeded Algoma Thursday night.  Algoma and Kewaunee are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the sectionals.

"If it wasn't for my team, I won't have been able to accomplish it," she said Friday.

While the Storm lost to Algoma 60-49, Geier said that her entire team celebrated and congratulated her after the game.

Geier also plays volleyball and softball but said that basketball is her passion and she hopes to play in college.

She has been playing basketball since second grade.   Having her mother as a coach "has been such a blessing," Geier said.

"She pushes me and my teammates to reach their full potential," said Geier.

Her achievement will be recognized at Saturday's home game against West De Pere at 2:30 p.m.

Storm junior Brooke Geier scored her 1,000th point in Thursday's basketball game against Algoma.
