Swing for Scholarships fundraiser a success

Posted

ALGOMA – After a seven-year absence, the Algoma Area Education Foundation’s Swing for Scholarships fundraiser returned to NorthBrook Golf & Grill July 24.

Event coordinator Rayanne Johnson said even with a smaller than usual group, more than $8,000 was raised for Algoma High School students.

“We plan to do it again, and already have a date for next year — July 30, 2027,” Johnson said.

The Foundation awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships this year, helping 32 students.
Gold Sponsor Terry Fulwiler, an AHS Class of ’68 graduate, was among more than 50 participants. Bayland Buildings, Inc., sponsored lunch; Precision Machine, Inc. was the appetizer sponsor; Door County Medical Center the beverage sponsor; and Be’s Vending the snack and water sponsor.

Tee Box sponsors included Son of Skaliwags, Salmon’s Meat Products, Sertich Environmental Services, Patrick and Jamie Robinson, Janice (Dettman) Hanamann Memorial Scholarship, and Simply Rayanne LLC.

Johnson said more than half of the golfers were AHS alumni, from the Class of 1966 to the Class of 2024. The Class of ’89 had the most people represented.

Johnson is already planning on “bigger and better” for next year’s event. Anyone interested in getting involved can email her at rayanne@algomaschools.org.
