William Bill Hackett Sr. age 83 passed away peacefully at Waterfall Health of Algoma on October 21, 2023, with family by his side. Bill was born August 2, 1940, to the late Howard and Norma (Meyers) Hackett. Bill grew up in Algoma after Graduating from Algoma High School, he opened the Algoma Sew-N-Vac on Steele Street in Algoma in 1958. On May 21, 1960, he married the love of his life Gloria Everard. Together they raised three children, William Jr, Lori and Dean. Together they ran their business until her Gloria's death in 1995.

Bill was a natural born salesman. He was a very kind and generous man in his business and his life. He always has a smile and took the time to talk to his many friends and customers. Their son Bill Jr. or Willy as his dad liked to call him started working at the store when he was in high school. Bill Jr. took the business over from his dad after he retired in 2021 after 63 years.

Bill was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Algoma. Bill had many talents. He served as a board member for St. Paul's Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Lutheran School. He also was the founder and president of the St. Paul's Lutheran School Endowment Fund. He was a part of many organizations, including bank boards, Algoma Chamber President.

Bills hobbies included playing sheepshead and cribbage with his brother Mike and cousin Mark, and many other friends. In his younger days Bill golfed in the men's league at Northbrook Country Club. He loved all sports Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Door County League Baseball Koh Iberg Braves. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren playing sports at St. Paul's Lutheran School and Algoma High School, He never missed a game. Bill did all this while battling MS for over 40 years he had such determination it never slowed him down.

We would like to thank Paul Pflughoeft for the help he gave Bill over many years, it is truly appreciated. Thank you to Dave and Tom Wettengel for their many phone calls daily to talk and check on their great friend and businessman.

Bill is survived and will be greatly missed by his children, William Jr. and Nancy Hackett, Lori and Jon Leanna, Dean & Kelli Hackett. Grandchildren Jason and Diana Leanna, Blake and Erin Cihlar, Tyler and Paige Hackett, Travis and Kelsey Hackett. Great Grandchildren Otto and Ava Leanna, Lettie and Isla Cihlar, Axel and Murphy Hackett, and Lettie Joe Hackett. His brother Mike and Judy Hackett, sisters Marilyn Blahnik and Diane Knapp and sister-in-law Della Everard

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene and Jack Naze, brother-in-law Don Blahnik, brother-in-law Myron Everard and his grandson Joey Hackett.

Visitation will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Algoma on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 9-11 am. Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am with Pastors Joel McKenney and John Moll officiating. Burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
