LUWEMBURG – The Connors of Luxemburg are living a family’s worst nightmare.

In the days leading up to this past Thanksgiving, Lucas, a fourth grader at Luxemburg-Casco Intermediate, was diagnosed with strep throat following a few days of not feeling well.

On the Friday morning following Thanksgiving at his great-grandparents’ house, he became unresponsive and was rushed to the emergency room.

Lucas was immediately flown to Madison Children’s Hospital where doctors found a mass in his chest which was releasing toxins into his system, attacking his kidneys and causing other physical complications.

Lucas has been diagnosed with a cancer known as T-Cell Lymphoma and an aggressive treatment plan is underway.

On Friday evening, Jan. 19, during the Spartans’ game against Oconto Falls, the community came together to show its support for Lucas, who has quite a youth sports resume in the bag already.

He is in his second season of playing basketball, to go along with three years of baseball and four seasons of flag football in the L-C system.

In the stands on Friday, a sea of #LOVE4LUCAS t-shirts, worn by an overwhelming majority of fans in attendance, represented the first round of fundraising put together to help the Connors as they dig in to fight for Lucas.

With the funds raised from the sale of the shirts, a check for $10,000 was presented to the Connor family by the L-C Basketball Booster Club.
