ALOGMA – For the first half of Algoma’s Packerland Conference showdown with Peshtigo on Friday, Feb. 2, the Wolves were in complete control of things, setting the game’s early tone with a 6-0 lead en route to a 28-16 halftime lead.
But for as hot as the Spartans were over the game’s first 18 minutes of play, they went stone cold in the second — unable to hit a field goal for the first nine minutes — as the sixth-place Bulldogs stormed back and finished things off at the buzzer with a three-pointer to snatch a 45-42 victory.
“We definitely had some breakdowns, on both ends of the floor. Defensively, I thought we did a nice job along the perimeter but then we lost guys underneath the hoop,” said Algoma Head Coach Eric Schneider after the game. “Offensively, I don’t know. We’re going to have to go back, watch the film a few times. I don’t think we set up our cuts to the basket the way we did in the first half and we didn’t get as many transition looks in the second half either.”
Algoma remains a game ahead of Peshtigo for fifth place in the conference with a 7-5 mark going into Thursday’s game against first-place Southern Door.
