Zeitler hits 1,000 as Luxemburg-Casco rolls

Jake Zeitler stole the ball and coasted in for a layup with 10:52 left in Luxemburg-Casco's 99-56 victory over Marinette on Friday night, stepping into the Spartans' record book with his 1,000th career point.

Jake Zeitler (10) embraces Luxemburg-Casco boys basketball coach John Hampton after scoring his 1,000 point Friday night.

Zeitler is the first L-C boys basketball player to score 1,000 points. During the first half he passed Tom Baierl's school record of 984 with a jump shot from the left side.

Coming into the game, Zeitler needed 10 points to match Baierl and 25 to reach 1,000; he finished the night with 33 points.

The game was stopped when he hit 1,000, and Zeitler exchanged high-fives with his teammates and embraced Coach John Hampton, then went into the bleachers to give the ball – and hugs – to his parents, Russ and Jenny.

The 6 foot 5 Zeitler has signed a letter of commitment to play for Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minn., where he plans to study physical education and business.

The Spartans are now 3-1 in the North Eastern Conference and overall.
