Cross-country: Kewaunee second at invite

Southern Door swept all of the top spots in the Kewaunee Invitational high school cross-country meet Sept. 21 at Bruemmer Park.

The Eagles won the boys team title with 20 points, followed by Denmark 46 and Sturgeon Bay 91. Kewaunee was incomplete.

Jacob Czech ran the 5,000-meter race in a time of 18 minutes, 51 seconds to place fifth for Kewaunee. Teammate Travis Miller (19:56) placed 14th.

Michael Bertrand won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 17 minutes, 53 seconds to lead Southern Door.

The Eagles also won the girls meet with 29 points, followed by Kewaunee 38, Denmark 58 and Sturgeon Bay 111.

Southern Door’s Chloe Volkman won the 5,000-meter race in 20:58 and teammate Gracie Englebert placed second in 21:07. Kewaunee had the next three places, as Brianne Barta, Amanda Vandenplas and Lexi Rentmeester finished third, fourth and fifth respectively, but the Eagles took the next two places and 13th to top the field.,

Girls team scores: 1. Southern Door, 29; 2. Kewaunee, 38; 3. Denmark, 58; 4. Sturgeon Bay, 111.

Kewaunee results: 3. Brianne Barta, 21:43; 4. Amanda Vandenplas, 22:02; 5. Lexi Rentmeester, 22:02; 11. Gabby Czech, 23:06; 15. Breanna Vandenplas, 23:38.

Boys team scores: 1. Southern Door, 20; 2. Denmark, 46; 3. Sturgeon Bay, 91; 4. Kewaunee incomplete.

Kewaunee results: 5. Jacob Czech, 18:51; 14. Travis Miller, 19:56.
