Lakeshore Community Pantry has reopened the “Clothing Closet” at a new location at 416 Harrison St. in downtown Kewaunee.

Clothing Closet volunteers celebrate the reopening of the store on Harrison Street: From left, Ann Clark, Jeanette Guns, Becky Paplham, Joanne Lazansky, Karen Hoffman, Gail Herlache, Pat Vonderharr, Linda Berkovitz, Donna Moran and Marisa Gerabek.

The store, which had been manned by Grace Lutheran Church until a few years ago, was formerly located at Hillcrest School.   The store was forced to move because of the demolition of the school.  The demolition is part of the renovations and additions at the Kewaunee School District’s campus.

.A grand opening was held Monday.  The store was once an old laundromat and has been redone by volunteers.

The Clothing Closet provides families in need with clothing, bedding, household items, and furniture.

“We have been able to help many who have had house fires or who have relocated to the area, coming with limited belongings,” said Donna Moran, director.  “We will continue to help in this manner, but we are also open to the public”

The store will be asking for small donations for items as it now have rent and utilities to pay, Moran said.
