State 42 in Kewaunee County to see road work north of Kewaunee to Door County line
KEWAUNEE – Now, the rest of State 42 in Kewaunee County gets its orange cones.
Following recent approval by the governor's office, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation begins a $3.7 million construction project Monday, Aug. 23, on 14 miles of State 42 from Duvall Street in Kewaunee north to the Kewaunee/Door County line. The project passes through Algoma, but no work will take place there between Feld Street on the south side of the city and and West Greenfield Avenue on the north side.
The expected completion date is in mid-October. The highway will remain open to traffic throughout the job with flagpersons to control traffic in work zones as necessary.
This project starts while almost all of the rest of State 42 in the county — nearly 10 miles from Baumeister Drive on the south side of Kewaunee southward to the Kewaunee/Manitowoc county line — remains closed to through-traffic for another construction project that began June 1, with flagpersons directing traffic in sections not under full closure for access to business and properties. This $5.1 million project, which includes include resurfacing pavement and replacing culverts, is expected to be completed by October.
