Spartans keep winning, now at 9-1

LUXEMBURG – The Luxemburg-Casco (LC) softball team continued its tear through the North Eastern Conference this past week and is now on a six-game winning streak, with its latest victories coming against Oconto Falls, Denmark and Wrightstown.
At 9-1, the Spartans are tied with Freedom for the division’s top spot.
The two teams saw each other earlier this month for a doubleheader at LC and they split the two games, the Spartans taking the first 1-0 and then falling in the nightcap 2-3.
April 21 on their home diamond, LC had little trouble handling Oconto Falls 7-1 and 15-4. Savannah Jandrin picked up wins in both games on the mound for the Spartans, striking out 11 over the two games while giving up only four hits and allowing just one run.
Offensively, the Spartans were sparked in game one by a single from Payton Kaminski in the second frame followed by a double from Kylie Hanson in what would be a four-run inning and all the offense LC would need to secure the win.
After opening game two with a pair of runs in the first inning, the Spartans put it out of reach in the second with eight runs plated, followed by three in the third and then, just for good measure, one each in the fourth and fifth.
LC was led offensively by Josie Dorner, who went three-for-four with four RBIs. Grace Kahr finished four-for-four with singles in the first, second, third and fourth innings while Peyton Kaminski put in a three-for-four effort at the plate with an RBI.
Monday brought another lopsided win as the Spartans got a two-for-three outing with four RBIs from Jillian Jorgensen. Hanson went two-for-two with an RBI and Maggie Hanmann knocked in three with her two-for-three day at the plate.
April 25 saw another doubleheader and another pair of wins for LC as the Spartans battered the home team Tigers of Wrightstown with an eight-run first inning, highlighted by RBIs from Payton Kaminski, Rylan Kaminski, Jorgensen, Anna Vandermause and Grace Kahr. Jandrin picked up the win on the mound with three innings pitched, two hits, zero runs allowed and five strikeouts.
Tuesday’s game two saw LC having to battle back from a 2-1 deficit, scoring four in the fifth inning to get ahead of the Tigers 5-2 before pulling away in the sixth with another three runs.
Kahr led the offense on a two-for-four evening with two RBIs. Payton Kaminski finished with two RBIs.
