GREEN BAY – The Algoma High volleyball team needed less than an hour to take care of business against the Green Bay West Wildcats on Tuesday, Sept. 5., taking the match in three straight games, 25-11, 25-6 and 25-8, to improve to 2-3 on the season.
“We served well tonight and we played very good defense,” said Algoma Head Coach Chris Robinson. “I think we got everything up on digs, we dug everything up. So even when they got their solid shots, we were keeping them in play. All around, it was a good game for us.”
The two teams were neck and neck to begin the opening set before the Wolves scored eight unanswered, highlighted by a big kill from Chloe Robertson set up by Hannah Neil, made it 16-8.

Six straight points with Neil at the line later in the frame set things up for Robertson to close out the opening set on an ace.
More hard serving from Neil, who would finish the night with seven aces, 14 assists and four digs, along with MyLee Jones, saw Algoma jump out to a 10-1 lead in the second set.
Later in the frame, Robinson went on a nice streak at the service line, helped out by some big plays at the net from Therese Gerdmann and the Wolves went on a 14-3 run to finish the second set, which was capped off by a hard serve from Dallas Thompson that never made it back across the net.
A blistering cross-court kill from Thompson got Algoma off to a 2-0 start in the third frame but West showed some spark to get back into it and take an early 4-2 lead.
The home team’s lead didn’t last long at all though.
Tied at 5-5, Rylee Zimmerman put the Wolves ahead on a nice kill, she finished with five for the night, before she extended Algoma’s lead to four at 10-6 on a big serve.
From there, the Wolves’ defense managed the Wildcats’ attempts to get back into it and cruised to a straight-sets victory.
Chloe Robertson finished the night with six aces and two kills; Jones had eight kills, five aces and three digs; Gerdmann had four kills and Olivia Cabino tallied nine digs and two aces.
