Storm survive Spartans

KEWAUNEE – The Kewaunee boys defended their home court against cross-county rival Luxemburg-Casco on Tuesday, Dec. 5 with an 80-70 final score to a game that saw both teams play furiously for 36 minutes.
“I am very happy with the effort and attitude of the boys. Chemistry in the locker room is building every day,” said Kewaunee head coach Matt Bosdeck. “I would like to not let teams come back on us but I’m proud of the boys battling through and closing out the game.”
Down 48-31 at halftime, the Spartans made a game of it late, closing the gap to six at one point late in the game with the score at 76-70 but the Storm held on to preserve the victory.
Kewaunee was led by a game-high 24 points from Thomas Stangel, 15 from Connor Kilgore and 14 from Avery Jerabek. Kewaunee’s Braxton Riha had a big game down low for the Storm with 16 points and some key rebounds.
Luxemburg-Casco, now 2-2, got 24 points from Jacob Coisman, 24 from Josh Parins, 10 from Steelen Olson, eight from James Glampe, four from Landon Derenne and three from Lance Cherovsky, who was also playing strong underneath with several big rebounds for the Spartans.
Kewaunee breezes by Gibraltar
KEWAUNEE – The Storm picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, Nov. 30 at home, knocking off the Vikings 64-48 to bring their record to 1-1.
Fresh off a 33-point performance in the season opener at Manitowoc Lutheran, Thomas Stangel poured in 34 points to lead all scorers while also recording five rebounds, three assists and six steals.
Avery Jerabek also had a big game for Kewaunee with 25 points, two boards and three steals.
Wolves defeat Blazers
GREEN BAY – The Algoma High boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, Nov. 30 as they defeated Green Bay NEW Lutheran 54-45.
The Wolves, down by a point at 22-21 at halftime, were paced by Parker Lischka’s 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Grant Vandervest also had a big game, going for 12 points, three boards, two assists and four steals.Chase Romdenne added an even 10 points to go along with three assists and two boards.
Algoma clipped by Oconto
ALGOMA – The Algoma High boys came up just short at home against the Blue Devils on Tuesday, Dec. 5, losing their first game of the season by a final of 51-48.
Parker Lischka led the Wolves with 16 points, Braeden Leist had 13 while Jack Tebon and Grant Vandervest both added six.
Spartans squeeze past Panthers
OCONTO FALLS – The Luxemburg-Casco boys are 2-0 following a close 58-55 road win over Oconto Falls on Friday, Dec. 1.
The Spartans had four players reach double-digit scoring territory. Steelen Olson had 16 points, seven boards, an assist, a block and a steal; Lance Cherovsky had 14 points to go along with four rebounds and an assist; JD Glampe had 13 points, three rebounds and two steals while Josh Parins had 10 points, four assists and two boards.
