Alayna Deprez broke a 13-year-old school career assists record over the weekend in the two-day, 32-team Charger Challenge in Milwaukee, one of the best volleyball tournaments in Wisconsin.
Deprez had 111 assists, 41 digs and 15 kills for the Spartans, who tied for 11th with a 3-3 record. L-C — the state’s fourth-ranked team in Div. 2 — beat Kettle Moraine Lutheran, McFarland and Burlington and lost to Waukesha West, Menomonee Falls and Xavier. Deprez surpassed Marissa Kline, who had 3,393 assists in three seasons, from 2010-12.
Other stat leaders from the weekend were Aubrey Frey with 71 kills, 54 digs and 10 aces; Claire Schleis with 37 kills and nine aces and Rylan Kaminski with 55 digs.
“Overall it was a good weekend,” Coach Jeff Frey said. “The competition is high, and I thought we did a great job of competing all weekend. We continue to do a lot of really good things, and the exciting thing is we have a lot of growth left in us.”
The Spartans then hosted Freedom Tuesday night, winning the first two games 26-24 and 25-17 before losing a close set 26-28, then winning the fourth set 26-24 to improve to 4-0 in the North Eastern Conference and 19-7 overall.
“What an absolute battle tonight,” Frey said. “It was a grind. They made us work for everything, and I was extremely proud of the grit we showed tonight.”
Frey had 34 kills, 17 digs and three blocks; Deprez 53 assists and 23 digs; Kaminski 24 digs and two aces and Ali Jansen eight kills.
