KEWAUNEE – After being in control of the action for most of their Division 4 sectional round matchup with Valders on Saturday, Feb. 24, the No. 1-seeded Storm let the No. 4 Lancers score on a second-chance look with time running out to steal a 41-40 victory.

“Let’s talk about offensive rebounding,” said Kewaunee head coach Lynn Geier on the difference in the game. “Valders got way too many putbacks, too many second chances. It was a huge area that we didn’t take care of. It’s a game of inches and we didn’t take care of the boards. If you give a team like this too many chances, you’re not going to come out ahead.”

Jade Kroll just missed out on a double double, finishing with 18 points and nine boards to go along with an assist and two steals. Braelyn Chevalier turned in six points, two boards, a steal and a block, along with five points and seven boards from Brianna Demmin.

Gabby Stangel had five points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal.

“I told the girls they worked hard, they did an awesome job this year,” coach Geier said. “We’re just going to grow from this. We’ve just got to be more disciplined. We were undisciplined in a lot of areas but hopefully, it’s a growth thing and we’ll get better.”

Storm topple Tigers in regional opener

KEWAUNEE – Kewaunee is on to the second round of the Division 4 regional bracket with a dominant 51-32 win over Howards Grove on Friday, Feb. 23.

“We’re doing okay but we’ve still got to crash the boards harder,” said Storm head coach Lynn Geier. “We’ve got a tough team coming up tomorrow. Valders is a good team so we’ve really got to clean things up and we know that. We did what we needed to do tonight but the next level is going to be a lot tougher.”

Jade Kroll led the Storm scoring effort with 11 points, along three rebounds and a steal.

Summer Walechka added 10 points, a rebound, two assists and a steal, Brianna Demmin had nine points, five rebounds, and a block while Braelyn Chevalier chipped in eight points, four boards, five assists and four steals.
