Posted

Kewaunee County Register of Deeds Germaine Bertrand announced that statewide issuance of vital records went into effect Jan. 3.

Statewide issuance of vital records allows register of deeds offices to issue records of births, deaths, marriages and divorces from all Wisconsin counties if the records are enabled in the Statewide Vital Records Information System.

Birth records from Oct. 1, 1907 to present; death records from Sept. 1, 2013 to present; marriage records from June 21, 2015 to present; divorce records from Jan. 1, 2016 to present; and tribal marriages and divorces from Jan. 1, 2016 to present will be issued from the statewide system. For those that are eligible, not all may be in the system yet and available for statewide issuance.

Vital records prior to the dates given above will be issued from the records on file in the local register’s office. The State Vital Records Office is working with register of deeds offices to develop a process for loading specific vital records on demand until all historic records are converted.

Bertrand said statewide issuance will aid in providing an easier an more efficient method for serving customers and provide better access to Wisconsin vital records. She thanked the public for its support and patience as her office works through the implementation of this new service.

Bertrand advised individuals to contact their local register of deeds to receive more information about statewide issuance. For more information, visit the Kewaunee County office, 810 Lincoln St., Kewaunee; call 920-388-7126; or email bertrang@kewauneeco.org.
