You plan on studying education at UW-Eau Claire next year. What inspired you to get into education as your career?

I truly knew I wanted to be a teacher in middle school. There was a class that on Tuesdays and Thursdays I had the chance to work with a classmate of mine who had autism. I learned I had a love not only for teaching but also for teaching students with special needs.

Would you like to teach at the high school level when your career gets going?

I don’t believe I will ever teach high school. My passion is for elementary school students. Although my passions could change and grow.

You’ve had some experience in the classroom already, working at Algoma Elementary. What’s that been like so far?

I have had the pleasure of working in the fifth grade room. Last year I helped out with 6th grade science and this year I challenged myself to help out in fifth grade reading. I really enjoy building a connection with the students. With that I also learn all the behind the scenes of what teachers do on a daily basis.

What kind of running shoe do you recommend?

I started running when I was eight and I first started with Nikes. As I’ve gotten more competitive and have competed at the high school level I have trained with Brooks, Nike, and OnCloud. I currently run in the Brooks. And I really enjoy them.

Outside of competition, do you prefer to run alone or with someone else or a group of other runners maybe?

I like training by myself. That way I am able to go at my own pace and really listen to how I’m feeling that workout.

Your father was a field athlete at AHS when he was a student. Does he ever try to give you running advice?

My father is actually the person who introduced me to running. He was training for the Shanty Days Run and asked if I wanted to do the kids run that they offered. Ever since then I have run. He tries giving me advice about my running form and how to calm my nerves.

You also help out your uncle with his food truck business. What’s that like and do you think you could ever start a side business like that in the future now that you know the ropes a little?

I really enjoy working in a food truck. You meet so many different people and they are all so nice. I do not think I will ever open my own business but I give total respect to anyone who does.

Any pets?

I have a cat named Smokey

Water or gatorade?

I would choose water any day of the week

What’s your favorite subject in school?

My favorite subject in school is social studies.
