Wolves take two from Blazers

ALGOMA – The Algoma High softball team had a productive Tuesday in Packerland Conference play this week, sweeping a doubleheader against visiting N.E.W. Lutheran/Providence Academy at home 6-0 and 13-2.

Game one saw Algoma’s Macie Zimmerman get the complete-game shutout from the mound, fanning 13 batters while giving up only three hits.

From the plate, Zimmerman went two-for-four while teammate Brooke Mattson was four-for-four at the plate with a double and an RBI.

The Wolves’ offense in the opening game was sparked by a triple in the third inning from Jaydn Nellis.

Game two saw Algoma finish off the Blazers in five innings. Macie Zimmerman had a double and two RBIs while Ryley Zimmerman’s two RBIs came off a home run.

Mattson went three-for-three in the game and Hannah Nell got the win on the mound, giving up only five hits while striking out seven. With the wins, the Wolves improved to 6-4 in conference.
