Luxemburg-Casco High School presents ‘The King and I’
The Performing Arts department of Luxemburg-Casco High School presents the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, The King and I, February 12-14.
The high school cast and crew, along with pit orchestra featuring local musicians, will entertain as two worlds collide in this classic story featuring such hit show tunes as “Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance,” and “Something Wonderful.” The show is directed and conducted by Choir Director, Paul Gregg. Counselor Peter Geissler serves as Assistant Director and Tanya Klanchar is the Choreographer.
Set in 1862, the story follows British widow Anna Leonowens as she arrives in Siam to tutor King Mongkut’s children. In Siam, she encounters an unfamiliar world full of exotic beauty mixed with rigid tradition and a headstrong king who both needs and resents her influence. It’s a match of wills, wit and wisdom as Anna and the King learn to see beyond their own prejudices to form a powerful, yet discreet, connection.
The cast features 45 talented high school students including Eric Maccoux as The King, Hayley Hilbert as Anna, Haley Marks as Lady Thiang, Grace Balza as Tuptim, Logan Rueckl as Lun Tha, Ethan Nimmer as Chaufa Chulalongkorn, Barney Baeten as The Kralahome, Kate Delcore as Louis Leonowens, Adon Ash as Captain Orton, Noah Doperalski as Sir Edward Ramsey, and Kyle VanBeek as Phra Alack.
Additional high school cast members include Faith Flynn, Baylee Nelis, Madison Hanmann, Morgan Renard, Mikayla Srnka, Rachael Strnad, Emily Wuest, Samantha Jeanquart, Erin Lenss and Morgan Michiels as the King’s wives; Aurora Delebreau, Sierra Paul, and Alysha Ihlenfeld as princesses; Brianna Frontuto as the interpreter; Cassie Naze, Zoe Zimmer, Nikita Goldsmith, and Megan Mueller as Amazons; Mitchell Hakari and Cole Peppin as guards/priests; Jon Hollister, Jacob Davidson, Noah Salentine, Hunter Van de Water and Kyle Curry as sailors/priests; and Julia Delcore, Katherine Haga, Sarah Iverson, Allie Kratz, Sarah McKinnon, Autumn Nelson, Kayla Opicka, Emma Thuecks, and Dakota Bader as palace servants.
An additional 13 children from the Luxemburg-Casco Intermediate School star as the King’s children and include Caroline VanDrisse, Megan Salentine, Katherine McAdaragh, Hailey DeGrave, Joey Thuecks, Savannah Jandrin, Autumn Flynn, Brendan Scheidt, Mason Michiels, Parker Gille, Ava Doperalski, Caleb Salentine and Jillian Jorgensen as Princess Ying Yaowalak.
Performances will be held at the Luxemburg-Casco High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12-13, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.
