Local students medal at SkillsUSA Wisconsin

KEWAUNEE COUNTY – Local students are among the award recipients during the SkillsUSA Wisconsin State Leadership and Skills Conference held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison on April 26.

The 50th annual event featured more than 1,800 middle and high school students and post-secondary students participating in over 80 skilled and technical trades competitions.

The following competitions had area students who medaled in their event.

Gold winners go on to compete in the 2023 National SkillsUSA Championships, held June 19-23 in Atlanta, Ga.

Culinary Arts — High School

Gold: Evan Schmitt, Germantown High School, Germantown

Silver: Eleanor Campbell, Elkhorn Area High School, Elkhorn

Bronze: Matt Wery, Kewaunee High School, Kewaunee

Welding Fabrication — High School — Team

Gold: Eli Gerner, Cody Hagglund, and Gavin Vander Velden, Kimberly High School, Kimberly

Silver: Mallory Colle, Tyler Douglas, and Carter Rowan, Chippewa Falls Senior High School

Chippewa Falls

Bronze: Coy Kleiman, Nathan Wesley, and Frank Zuege, Kewaunee High School, Kewaunee

SkillsUSA Wisconsin is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to “ensure America has the skilled work force needed to stay competitive.”

The talent pipeline covers 130 trades, technical and skilled service occupations — the majority science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related.
