APPLETON – The Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team is off to a 5-2 start to its 2023 campaign following a big weekend against tough competition in Appleton at the Beast of the Northeast tournament held at Community First Champion Center.
The Spartans were undefeated during Friday’s pool play, beating Ripon, Kingsford (MI) and West Salem, all 2-0.
In bracket action on Saturday, Aug. 26, L-C beat Green Bay Southwest 2-0, then lost to Hortonville 2-0. The team finished the tournament with a 2-1 win against Edgewood and then was defeated 2-0 by Fox Valley Lutheran.
“It was a good start to the season,” said L-C head coach Jeff Frey. “We have some growing pains that we are going through with some injuries and girls being in new spots, but the effort was there and I thought the girls battled all weekend. There were a lot of good things to build off of and things to learn from, all things you are looking for from the opening weekend of the season.”
