L-C earns trip to baseball sectionals
LUXEMBURG – Luxemburg-Casco advanced to the Clintonville sectional with a 6-2 WIAA Division 2 regional final victory Wednesday over Sturgeon Bay.
In a matchup of conference titlists, the Spartans of the North Eastern Conference jumped on top of the Packerland Conference-champion Clippers with a five-run first inning and never looked back.
A one-out walk to Kyle Routhieaux started the first-inning Luxemburg-Casco rally. Routhieaux advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jake Thyes single. Singles by Mason Isenberg and Jordan Jorgensen loaded the bases and Bryce TeKulveās single scored two runs to make it 3-0.
After a walk to load the bases, Shaefer Mleziva hit a two-run single for a 5-0 lead.
Ian Doell earned the victory, going 3.1 innings, and allowing one earned run on six hit and one walk, while striking out four. Nathan Yagabinski and Noah Lindsley pitched in relief.
Jared VanBramer took the loss in 5.1 innings of work.
The Spartans next face Waupaca in the sectional semifinals at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Clintonville.

DIVISION 3
Southern Door 24, Kewaunee 19: The host Eagles led 10-0 after one inning and 17-4 after two, but the Storm wouldnāt go away and even pulled within three runs before falling in the regional final.
As it turned out, Southern Doorās 10-run first inning was too much to overcome for Kewaunee, which packed all 19 of its runs in five innings.
Pitchers Lincoln Barta and Wes Gallenberger couldnāt make it out of the first inning, allowing nine of the 10 Eagles runs. But both were solid at the plate: Gallenberger had three hits, four runs scored and two runs batted in, while Barta had three hits, including a grand slam, four runs scored and six runs batted in.
It was Bartaās sixth-inning grand slam that pulled Kewaunee within its closest margin, 22-19.
