Charlie Prokash throws no-hitter in tournament at Waterloo Saturday

Posted

Algoma baseball is playing for pride and post-season at this point, with a chance to knock Kewaunee out of a tie for the top spot in the Packerland Conference Friday at Perry Field.

After a conference co-championship and a 16-7 record overall a year ago, the Wolves have started the season 3-7, including 0-3 in the conference. They’ve been their worst enemy in many of those games, with costly errors that they’ll need to clean up in order to advance deep in the post-season.

However, they did get a highlight game from sophomore pitcher Charlie Prokash Saturday, a no-hitter with nine strikeouts at Waterloo.

The Storm, meanwhile, is 3-0 in conference and 5-2 overall. If it can get by Algoma, Kewaunee will travel and try hand the Vikings their first loss May 9. The northern Door co-op team is 10-0 overall, and 4-0 in the Packerland having outscored their opponents 28-4 in conference play. In three Packerland games to date, the Storm have scored 33 runs while giving up just nine.

On the softball side, Algoma is the lone unbeaten in conference play after Kewaunee upset Sevastopol 3-1 Tuesday. The Wolves are 9-2 overall, 6-0 in Packerland play, where they’ve outscored their opponents 67-14. The Pioneers are 8-3, 2-1, and Kewaunee 6-4, 4-2.
