On the road and under the lights on turf, the Storm junior varsity football team came from behind Monday night to top the Bayport Pirates, 24-20.
Two Blake Temme runs and a 30-yard hook and lateral from Brody Eliot to Mason Delebreau to Peyton Schaller gave Kewaunee an 18-0 lead, but the hosts scored on a 65-yard pass play with seconds remaining in the first half.
The teams traded punts to start the second half through the third quarter when the Pirates intercepted a Storm screen pass and took it for a touchdown after the extra point the score stood 18-14. Another fumble led to a third Bayport score and a 20-18 lead.
With 6:38 left, the Storm began an 80-yard scoring drive capped by a second successful hook and lateral with the same three players, this time on fourth down with 2:37 left from the 30-yard line.
Kewaunee’s defense stopped the Pirates from getting a first down, and then needed just one first down to ice the game. Three hard runs did just that.
The Storm JVs are now 5-0 and head to Southern Door Monday, Sept. 29 for a 4:30 p.m. start.
