Snowmobile trails close in Kewaunee County due to a lack of snow
KEWAUNEE – All Kewaunee County snowmobile trails were closed Friday morning due to lack of snow.
The trails in sections 1 (Red River area) and 2 (Algoma area) had opened Monday, while trails in sections 3 (Luxemburg area) and 4 (Kewaunee area) remained closed due to lesser snowfall.
Kewaunee County has six snowmobile clubs that maintain the county’s nearly 205 miles of trails as well as give condition updates to the Promotions & Recreation Department.
“We had a short run, but we can tell that the trails were definitely used this week," said Dave Myers, director of Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation. "We would like to stay open longer, unfortunately our snowmobile clubs know it’s not possible. The snow base has deteriorated to a point that the trails are no longer usable. We will be sure to share when the snowmobile trails open again, we’re just waiting on more snow.”
The Kewaunee County Promotions & Recreation Department will continue to update trail conditions on its 24/7 hotline, 920-388-7199 if conditions change.
