Blake Robillard’s two-run single and strong pitching from Owen Deprez and Colin Lacey lifted Casco to its second straight Shoreland Baseball League regular-season title Monday night.
The host A’s beat the team they tied with for the top spot a year ago, Denmark, 3-2.
Deprez went the first seven innings, striking out 10 while allowing five hits and two runs. He also had a double. Lacey closed the door, getting the final six outs, four on strikeouts.
Casco and Kewaunee both finished 10-2 — like Casco and Denmark did a year ago — but the A’s again won the tiebreaker and earned the top seed in the playoffs. Manitowoc ended the regular season 5-7, Algoma 4-8, Ashwaubenon 3-9 and Two Rivers 1-11.
In Tuesday’s play-in games, Manitowoc beat Two Rivers 10-3 and Ashwaubenon beat Algoma 8-3. Charlie Prokash had a pair of doubles for the Penguins.
Whoever won Thursday night’s play-in will host Casco Monday in a best-of-three semifinal. The other semi has Kewaunee at Denmark. The A’s and Chiefs will then host any remaining semifinal games, possibly next Tuesday and, if needed, Thursday, to see who meets for the playoff championship series.
