Casco will have a chance to share the regular season title with Kewaunee Monday night when it hosts Denmark in a key Shoreland Baseball League game.
The A’s fell at Kewaunee last Friday, 3-0, but bounced back in a big way Wednesday at Casco, pounding out 18 hits in a 10-4 win over the Chiefs.
Kewaunee finishes the regular season 10-2; both Casco and Denmark are 9-2 heading into Monday night’s game.
More than 300 fans packed the park for “Buck Beer Night” and Bill Shaw’s induction into the Shoreland Hall of Fame.
They were treated to a pitcher’s duel, with Kewaunee’s Joe Anderson and Casco’s Owen Deprez combining for 30 strikeouts in eight innings of work.
Waylon Delain doubled in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a fielder’s choice swinging bunt for the first run, and Reese Berg’s two-out single plated the other two.
Brett Paulsen had two hits for the Chiefs, and got the save on the mound, striking out two in the ninth inning. The A’s Mitch Jandrin was the only player with a hot bat. He scratched out three hits.
On Wednesday, Trevor Reinhardt had a two-run double in the first inning and a three-run homer in the seventh to help break the game open at Casco. Patrick Daniels had four hits, and Deprez, Blake Robillard and Colin Lacey all had multiple hits. Noah Lindsley tossed a complete game while allowing no earned runs and no walks.
For the Chiefs, Berg had three hits, Delain two with two RBI, and Alex Rohr a pair.
Meanwhile, Austen Dart had a grand slam and Brady Kita drove in four runs on three hits to lead Algoma past Manitowoc last Thursday, 15-5.
Dart then went 4-for-4 with two home runs in Tuesday’s 16-10 win over Two Rivers, and Kita and Jack Peterson each added three hits, including a homer each.
A night earlier, something special happened in the Penguins’ loss at Ashwaubenon. We’ll have a story and photos from that rare occurrence in next week’s sports.
