Some of Kewaunee County’s finest athletes are competing at the WIAA State Track & Field Meet at UW-LaCrosse this weekend after memorable sectional performances.

In Div. 2, junior Claire DuChateau of Luxemburg-Casco won two events, setting a school record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:07.91 and winning the 3200 in 11:18.74, a personal best.

The Spartans’ 4x400 relay team of Brady Kinnard, Levi Kinnard, Mason Trimberger and Jonathan Salentine also were champs, winning in 3:24.96. Trimberger also qualified in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Freshman Ana Wolfert placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, sixth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. Though she didn’t qualify for state, she broke the school record in the long jump at regionals with a leap of 17 feet, 0.75 inches.

In Div. 3, Kewaunee senior Hannah Miller won the 800 in a personal best 2:14.95, placed second in the 1600 (a season’s best 5:05.37), and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team, making up a 20- to 30-yard deficit about halfway through her quarter-mile. Natalie Miller, Noelie El Kout and Kaylyn Martin are the other team members. They completed the race in a personal best 4:05.28. Natalie also advanced in the pole vault, placing second.

Algoma vaulters Estella Marrero and Cooper Fay were the lone Wolves to advance to the state meet.
