Luxemburg-Casco 126-pounder becomes school’s 46th State Wrestling Champion

LUXEMBURG-CASCO – On March 1, at the 82nd Wisconsin State Wrestling Championships held at the Kohl Center in Madison, Luxemburg-Casco garnered their 46th individual championship as Carson Neubert won the 126-pound Division-1 championship with a 6-1 overtime victory over Maximus Hay of Brown Deer High School. The bout was tied 1-1 after six minutes.

Late in the first minute of overtime, Neubert scored on a fireman’s carry takedown, putting Hay on his back for a 2-point near-fall and a 6-1 victory.

On his way to the finals, Neubert had a pin in the preliminaries, a tech fall 15-0 in the quarter finals and a 16-4 major decision in the semi-finals. Neubert closed the season with a 55-1 record, totaling a 110-7 record over his two seasons.

Blakelee Bastien finished fourth place at 144-pounds, winning two matches and losing two heart breakers, including a 2-1 decision in the semi-finals. Bastien finished the season with a 45-8 record and 176 wins over his four seasons on varsity. Bastien qualified for State all four seasons, placing in the top five three times.

Joseph Jeanquart took sixth place at 132-pounds, winning three matches and losing two for the tourney. Jeanquart finished the season with a 45-13 record. Mason Boulanger, 150-pounds; Logan Ellwanger, 165-pounds; and Calvin Bohm, 285-pounds; did not place.

The WIAA’s new competitive balance rule moves the Spartans up to Division-1 in wrestling because of back to back Division-2 State Titles the past two seasons.
