Career highlight: Improving my score average every meet along with balancing my game quality and academic success.

At what age did you start playing your sport(s)?
15.

Who introduced you to your sport(s)?
My stepdad Ken introduced me to golf as a fun hobby.

What is your favorite sport?
Golf.

How has balancing academics and athletics been different for you from your freshman year to your senior year?

As a freshman I was just learning to balance my time and adjust to the new demands of high school along with the high athletic competition. As I moved into my senior year I developed better time management along with discipline during my sports. Creating that comfortability in handling multiple commitments.

What is your favorite part about your sport(s)? What about it has caused you to stick with it for this long?
My favorite part about golf was creating memories with my teammates and the friendships with my competitors. Even though golf is an individual sport it’s always nice to hear encouragement from teammates or competition. I think I would have joined golf sooner if I knew the flexibility and freedom you have as it is an individual sport.

Is there a professional athlete you look up to? If so, who?
Even though I was new to playing golf, I grew up watching all the big golf tournaments with my stepdad and admiring Scotty Scheffler and his humility.

What would you say is your biggest asset on the court/field?
My biggest asset on the course would be persistence, taking those extra swings after a bad hole or continuing to push and practice before stepping up to the next tee.

What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?
My most memorable experience would be all the nice courses our team got to take on together and having those memories built together.

How does it feel as a senior, to look back throughout high school and see your growth (as a person and athlete)?

Looking back it is amazing to see the growth of not just balancing time management and school work but where I fit in. I have made progress not just on my homework and advanced classes but in my confidence in who I am and what my future will hold. Through this progress I am extremely grateful for the experiences, coaches and classmates who have shaped me into the person I am.

Do you have any pre-game rituals/routines/superstitions?
After almost all golf meets our team would go to Culver’s to celebrate.

Do you take any extra steps to prepare for a big game or event, outside of regular training?
Taking advantage of our student athlete passes at Northbrook was a huge benefit for my golf game. Being able to go play nine holes before a meet without worrying about the price or going to the driving range to get better.

What has been your favorite experience with being a senior this year?
My favorite experience of being a senior was definitely homecoming, but also becoming closer with my grade before we all leave for college.

Any memorable coaches or teammates you’d like to give a shout out to?
I would like to shout out Coach Guillen, he was not only my golf coach senior year but my Spanish teacher for as long as I can remember. He is someone you can go to for anything and he has the best advice on and off the course. Coach Guillen has not only helped my golf game immensely but also shaped me as a human. His after-class talks about the past me and future me will be something that sticks with me forever.

Any hobbies outside of sports?

My hobbies outside of sports would mostly be hanging out with friends and exploring new towns/cities.

Favorite food?
Chicken cutlets and orzo.

Favorite movie/TV show?
Favorite movie is “Ratatouille.”

Future plans? (college, major, career, etc.)
I plan to major in radiology at Edgewood College.
