Shaw to be inducted into Shoreland Baseball League Hall of Fame at Kewaunee Friday night

Kewaunee’s Bill Shaw will be inducted into the Shoreland Baseball League Hall of Fame Friday night, July 24, on “Buck Beer Night” in a crucial home game against Casco.

The Chiefs lost their first game of the season Wednesday night, stunned 13-3 by a Manitowoc team that won only its fourth game in 10 tries.

Kewaunee is 9-1, Denmark 8-2 and Casco 8-1 heading into the final weeks of the season.
The Chiefs beat Denmark 5-3 last Friday behind a strong pitching performance from Joe Anderson, who struck out 13. Reese Berg had two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Lincoln Barta also doubled.

Meanwhile, Casco swept Manitowoc last Friday in a doubleheader, 10-0 and 10-3.

Cole Bzdawka had a three-run homer in the opener, and Owen Deprez and Mitch Jandrin combined for nine RBI in the nightcap including a three-run double for Deprez and a three-run home run for Jandrin. Colin Lacey struck out six and allowed just one hit in game one, and Noah Lindsley struck out eight in game two.

On Wednesday night, the A’s got a combined 10 hits from Patrick Daniels, Blake Robillard and Deprez, pounding Two Rivers, 17-0. Daniels had four hits, including a double and a home run, while Deprez and Robillard each had three hits. Landon Derenne made his first career start, allowing just four hits while striking out six with no walks.

Meanwhile, Algoma got its first win of the season Monday, 12-6 over Two Rivers. The Penguins took advantage of seven errors. Owen Dannhausen had three hits and three RBI, while Carson Leist struck out eight and allowed only one earned run in four innings.

Shoreland stats

Prior to the midweek games, Trevor Reinhardt was batting .455 to lead Casco’s regulars. Jaden Diller was hitting .444 for Algoma, and Brett Paulsen .435 for Kewaunee.

Anderson had an ERA of 0.31 for Kewaunee, while Lindsley (0.42) and Deprez (0.54) had the best ERAs for Casco. Paulsen had only pitched 4.1 innings, but hadn’t allowed a hit while striking out 12 and walking just one. Waylon Delain had 16 innings of work for the Chiefs, allowing 10 hits while striking out 10 with an ERA of 1.10.
